12th Edition of the America’s Cup:
Where the defence was contested by two designs: the BB Crowninshield design, ‘Independence’ and the Herreshoff design ‘Columbia’. ‘Columbia’ became the overall Defender and successfully retained the ‘Auld Mug’ (3-0) against Sir Thomas Lipton’s British Challenge, the GL Watson design, ‘Shamrock II’. It was the first time the same yacht (Columbia) won the America’s Cup twice – 1899 & 1901.
