Janley

Hull number 14 of 25 Pacific Cruising Class yachts designed and built by George Kettenburg Jr. at Kettenburg Marine USA between 1946 and 1958 in San Diego California. Janley and the rest of the fleet are fractionally rigged sloops displacing 20,000 lbs with a full keel, keel hung rudder and offset two bladed propeller. The lead ballast is external and 7,000 lbs.

The fleet was cruised and raced extensively up and down the West Coast, notably the Lipton Cup and Transpac with wins in both. Janley was transported to the east coast in 2000 where she raced and cruised before a new owner moved her to Florida. In 2014 Janley was bought by Cameron and Maggie Fraser who transported her to St. Thomas before sailing her to Antigua were she has undergone a one year refit at Woodstock Boatbuilders Falmouth Antigua.

Janley’s light construction had resulted in many of her frames being damaged and subsequently sistered. The removal of the sistered frames and replacement of the originals made up the majority of the work done during the refit with new planking from the garboard up to plank 8 on port and starboard, repairs to the bow and transom, cockpit floor and cockpit side’s making up the remainder of the work. A complete repaint and re varnish of the hull, deck, mast and boom and a new suit of sails by North Sail.
