“The original owner of Chamois was my father, Alan Drake. I can remember the launching by crane at Cherbourg – I was 9 yrs old at the time. My father, elder brother and some friends sailed Chamois back to her home port of Poole.
My earliest memories of big boat sailing were aboard Chamois. Chamois was raced extensively by my father, both locally and doing many RORC races, including 3 Fastnets. She was sold in 1968/9 to be replaced by a 40ft Alan Gurney design – Stampede of Arne.”

Chamois has clearly been well looked after. Her original topsides were white and the decorative timber work around the hull has been added since.
