The discovery and restoration of the 79ft Sweisguth schooner ‘Kelpie’.

Classic Yacht TV brings you the first of a 3-part series following the discovery and restoration of the 79ft Sweisguth schooner ‘Kelpie’.

In 2011 Charlie Wroe, Captain of the Herreshoff schooner Mariette, found a restoration project for his enthusiastic owner. A 1929, 79ft Francis Sweisguth schooner was discovered tied up alongside in San Fransisco, and although built on the eastern seaboard at Harvey Gamage’s yard in South Bristol she was to be sailed to Gweek Shipyard on the Helford River in the UK. This film covers her story so far, her delivery from America to Cornwall, her restoration and includes interviews from those with the aim to bring her back to her original design.
