The 4th edition of the Corsica Classic is set for their next event from the 25th August to the 1st September, 2013.
The regatta starts in the north-west town of Calvi, a place reaped in history. According to some legends it was the birthplace of Christopher Columbus while under Genoese occupation, and it was certainly where Horatio Nelson lost sight in his right eye in 1794!
A fascinating location where the sheer cliffs provide a stunning backdrop for the classic fleet.
The regatta then hops down the west coast over the next week calling in at Girolata, the island’s capital Ajaccio and finishing up at the impressive deep water harbour of Bonifacio.
At the beginning of July the fleet had already exceeded 20 entries from Big Boat to Marconi yachts no larger than 11m. In competition with the Cope Del Rey of Menorca, on during the same week, the regatta certainly seems to be attracting anybody wishing to remain in French, or should I say, Corsican waters!
More from the Event Organisers:
“This fourth edition is certainly a unique event of yachting in the Mediterranean sea that you have to experience once in your life : first because it is the only regatta with classic yachts sailing all around Corsica. Second because of its team spirit, its friendly cocktails every night in a new harbour around authentical products and wines, its request of performance during the 7 regattas that go on every day from 12AM.
Corsica Classic is also defending nature and has a strong will to protect the environnement by its association with l’Office de l’Environnement in Corsica, protecting all the natural sites on the island.
Among Celebrities & strong personalities that will be around this year, we have the famous sailor and adventurer Philippe Monnet, former pilot on the Paris-Dakar and recordman for its world sailing tour in 129 days in 2009 as much as for its numerous victories (Route du Rhum, Transat Jacques Vabres) who is very pleased to attend the Corsica Classic for the first time.
TV darling and french journalist Tania Young, hosting the show « Faut pas rêver » on french TV channel FR3 and a star in France is part of the journey too, and will give awards on Sunday night as she is the Godmother of this event.
