Classic Channel Regatta

July 4th-11th 2009

We are pleased to announce that arrangements are well in hand for the third Classic Channel Regatta which will race from Dartmouth to
Dinard/St Malo and then to St Peter Port during the week of Saturday July4th to Saturday July 11th 2009.

Highlights of the regatta will be:

• We are aiming to have 100 classic yachts from Britain, France and other countries racing across the Channel in 2009, and a good number have already pre-registered.

• The regatta will start with two days of racing at Dartmouth on the weekend of July 4th & 5th.

• The Classic Channel Race will then sail from Dartmouth to Dinard/St Malo, starting on Monday July 6th, arriving the next day.

• At Dinard & St Malo – a free day and prizegiving on Wed July 8th followed by an inshore race off St Malo/Dinard on Thurs July9th. (with an island beach barbecue if weather permits).

• There will be a Passage race from Dinard/St Malo to St Peter Port on Friday July 10th.

• At St Peter Port the Classic Round Sark Race will finish the regatta on Saturday July 11th , followed by the final prizegiving and closing party..

• Finishing on Saturday in Guernsey gives boats time to get back home to England or France on Sunday in time for back-to-work on Monday.

• The regatta has built a reputation for making life in port as much fun as the racing, so there will be a full programme of informal social events throughout the regatta.

• The regatta takes a ‘broad church’ inclusive view of the classic yachts eligible to enter. Classic yachts first launched before the end of 1975, including some classic GRP designs (such as the Twister, S&S 34, Nicholson 36, early Swans and even the Contessa 32), as well as some later yachts of classic design and Spirit of Tradition yachts, are all eligible and welcome.

• There will be classes for both IRC Handicap boats and also the Classic Channel Regatta Handicap, which is free of charge.

• This is a regatta with a true corinthian spirit (and biere and croissants!) which welcomes entries from both keen racers and the more relaxed who enjoy a bit of racing and sailing in good company.

• The regatta is organised by a voluntary group called CRAB (Classic Regatta Anglo- Breton) in association with the Royal Dart YC in Dartmouth, Dinard Yacht Club and Guernsey Yacht Club.

• For full information, contact details, and to pre-register for the

Finally, here are a few quotes from 2007 entrants’ emails:

“The whole event was so well done and in great style – timely organisation and good entertainment – all in all a great week”. HS.

“Absolutely great event – very much looking forward to a repeat in 2009” NF.

“How can I resist the invitation to sign up for 2009? Such fun, can’t wait!” HS.
