January 18th-21st, 2007
The first yachts have signed up for the St Maarten Classic Yacht Regatta in January next year. Kate, the new 12 metre, due to be launched in November in St Kitts was the first to enter, and now the John Alden 1928 design Charm III has joined her. Moonbeam IV is expected to sail over from the Mediterranean summer to get involved with the racing and will surely bring a number of other fine classics with her.
Kate is a new-build 12-Metre based on Alfred Mylne plans from 1908. She is being built at the Pleasant Boats Company in St Kitts under the ownership and expert guidance of Philip Walwyn. Walwyn built two 6-Metre yachts in the 1980’s, raced in the class and became both British and European Champion in 1987.
His plans for Kate after her debut at St.Maarten is to head over to Europe, join the ‘Metre’ events in the Solent and get a few charters under her rail.
