The cult of the Sparkman & Stephens designed Swan 65 began with the victory of Sayula II, hull number 03, which entered the first Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973 and won it outright, competing against pure racing yachts. The undeniable performance was matched with a very strong hull, a ketch rig designed for world cruising (though some were delivered with a sloop rig). The yacht has good headroom throughout, and can sleep up to twelve in four cabins with three heads. The Swan 65 was certainly the maxi yacht of its time. In total, 41 models were built between 1972 and 1979.Information courtesy of Nautor’s Swan website.
