Construction: | Carvel planking on double-sawn English oak frames sided to 2 1/2" and molded 3-4". 1 1/2" carvel planking with teak shear strake, Canadian rock elm garboard, and first broad, and the remainder is pitch pine. 7"-thick molded English elm structural keel, English oak deadwood & backbone. Bronze floor timbers and bronze bolt and spike fastenings. Wrought-iron hanging and lodging knees. The laid-and-caulked deck is 1 1/2" teak, and SHIRIS is fitted with wheel steering to a keel-hung rudder in a self-bailing cockpit. All joinerwork, skylights, doghouse, etc., is varnished teak. 16,000 lb. outside lead ballast. White topsides with red boottop and blue bottom. |
