Nyala was commissioned by FT Bedford, president of the Standard Oil Corporation. She was given as a wedding present to his daughter Lucy and her husband-to-be, Briggs Cunningham. He is thought to have invented the ‘Cunningham hole’ which we use to this day to provide luff tension in a mainsail.

Restored in 1996.

Attended the 2001 Jubilee regatta in Cowes.

Won the 12-Metre Worlds in Barcelona, July, 2014.
