Judy

#773 – Huntington Class

The Huntington Class was developed to bridge the gap between small open racing classes active at the time and larger racing-cruising yachts on Long Island Sound.

A June 1947 article in Yachting magazine noted, this little sailboat “will make not only for a fine racing class but also day sailor and overnight cruiser. It will be a boat for the whole family to enjoy.”

“The hull resembles a small Dolphin(Newport 29), but she was an Olin Stephens design. Built in Huntington by Knudsen, Judy apparently did not meet the needs of the Seawanhaka members who had put in a prototype order. Back in the Knudsen shed for a rest, Judy was discovered by Donn Costanzo, not just intact but in great sailaway condition. Now part of the Oakcliff Sailing Centre fine collection of classic yachts owned by Hunt Lawrence Judy leaves first in the weekly pursuit races on Oyster Bay often outrunning the bigger boats that follow.
