Winter series standings & pics from a wild day on the water

(23rd July, 2018)

Last Saturday saw race 3 of the Club Marine Winter Series for the classic division and a complete reversal of the light winds of the first two races.

We were treated to a 25 – 30 kt NE’er which meant a great climb to windward up to Saltworks Buoy underneath Rangitoto Island and a fantastic run back to the finish line at Westhaven.

Ranger  took line honours, crossing a full 15 minutes before 2nd placed Arohia. On handicap it was a slightly different story, with Aramoana taking out the top spot, followed by Ranger, Gypsy and Leda.

After 3 races, Aramoana stands in first place on the leaderboard with 9 points, with Ranger and Ariki tied for 2nd place on 16 points. Only two races to go!

Richard Blakey (from the Live Sail Die website) captured these two great photos from the end of Orakei Wharf – above: Ranger on the upwind beat with her reefed down rig and long overhangs working perfectly, and below: Ariki working back over toward Devonport on her way to rounding the North Head mark.

And a few more photos below courtesy of the (very wet) crew of Little Jim.
